Position Overview: As an Tax Preparer , you'll work directly with the firm's owner and CPA on a wide range of accounting and tax engagements. You'll have the opportunity to contribute real value, expand your skillset, and build trusted client relationships in a collaborative and flexible setting where your work is respected and your schedule can accommodate real life. Key Responsibilities: Prepare or assist with individual and business tax returns (Forms 1040, 1041, 1120S, 1065, etc.) Manage bookkeeping, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation. Conduct tax research and help ensure accuracy, compliance, and audit readiness. Engage directly with clients to gather context and ask the right questions - because tax returns and financial statements aren't just numbers. Each client's story, decisions, and intentions shape their financial picture. You'll help translate life events into accurate reporting and a thoughtful tax strategy. Maintain organized and confidential accounting records. Support ongoing improvements to internal workflows and client service processes. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required) Open to both early-career and experienced accountants (0-10 years) Strong understanding of accounting for small businesses and U.S. tax principles Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (QuickBooks or similar) Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, professionalism and time management skills Strong written and verbal communication with relationship-building skills What's In It for You: Direct hire role with a respected and growing CPA firm Mentorship and one-on-one collaboration with a licensed CPA A flexible, supportive, and human-centered work environment Competitive compensation and benefits Friendly office culture that values people, balance, and delivering excellent results and client care Work Schedule & Flexibility: Full-time on-site in Berwyn, IL (near Brookfield, Cicero, Forest Park, and surrounding communities). However-this firm is truly open to flexible scheduling to support life outside of work, including: Slightly adjusted start/end times for school drop-off and pick-up Reduced summer hours A workflow that allows children to be in the office after school (homework/snack friendly) The option to work full-time during tax season and part-time in off-season Tax Season Requirements: Saturdays 10am-2pm from Feb 15-April 15. Off-Season: More time off and/or reduced schedule is available. If you don't want a traditional 2,000-hour year - that's completely fine here.
