Core Faculty Member & Clinical Assistant Professor The Family
Institute at Northwestern University Posting Date July 11, 2023
This opening is for a Clinical Assistant Professor with a start
date as soon as September 1, 2023. Core Faculty Members are
employees of The Family Institute at Northwestern University with
significant teaching, supervising and governing responsibilities in
our COAMFTE-accredited Master of Science in Marriage and Family
Therapy Program. The program is housed within Northwestern
University's Center for Applied Psychological and Family Studies
(CAPFS). Core Faculty Members hold clinical faculty appointments in
the Department of Psychology at Northwestern University. They are
also responsible for clinical caseloads in the staff practice of
The Family Institute.ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Participate in the governance and administration of the
program's mission, goals and student learning outcomes, including
participation in the delivery of the program' s outcome-based
education framework;
2. Develop, maintain and support program components and activities
that are designed to achieve measurable student learning outcomes
reflective of the development of systemic, integrative, culturally
sensitive, ethical, competent, and empirically-informed marriage
and family therapists;
3. Participate in the ongoing assessment of the academic, clinical
and professional competencies of students and all aspects of the
program's operation, such that program improvements can be made
based on data and other feedback collected;
4. Work within the guidelines and requirements of the program, the
policies of Northwestern University, and the AAMFT code of
ethics;
5. Attend and contribute to core faculty meetings, committee
meetings, and quarterly cohort program meetings;
6. Serve on the program's admissions committee which includes
recruitment, open house attendance, review of applications,
interviewing, and participating in admission decisions;
7. Provide leadership and support to program committees;
8. Serve as the academic advisor to students in the program from
student orientation through graduation;
9. Mange a variety of student issues including support of their
academic and professional development and participate in the
remediation process as needed;
10. Serve as an instructor for in-person courses in the on-ground
branch of the program and be willing to participate as a guest
lecturer for various courses as needed;
11. Serve as a clinical supervisor of students;
12. Serve as a mentor to AAMFT Supervision Candidates;
13. Engage in scholarly activities including but not limited to
participation in a research lab and mentoring students in their
scholarly pursuits;
14. Exhibit ongoing efforts to advance and receive academic
promotional ranking within the department of Psychology at
Northwestern University;
15. Participate in activities that support the profession of
marriage and family therapy that go beyond the program tasks;
16. Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to support and
contribute to the online branch of the MSMFT program as needed;
17. Maintain an active clinical caseload at a level negotiated
yearly, comply with clinical services policies, and attend clinical
services meetings;
18. Perform ad hoc duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge and
Skills:
1. Cultural sensitivity and strong commitment to diversity, equity
and inclusion;
2. Demonstrated commitment to an integrative, systemic and
empirically-informed approach to clinical practice and the training
of therapists;
3. Commitment to learn the integrative systemic therapy perspective
which provides the theoretical and clinical basis of the
program;
4. Evidence of ability to teach within the discipline of marriage
and family therapy;
5. Experience in supervising graduate students in clinical
settings;
6. Demonstrated experience in being able to maintain a clinical
practice;
7. Demonstrated leadership and maturity in addressing complex
educational and training issues;
8. Demonstrated flexibility in teaching both in person and
remotely
9. Collegiality, willingness and initiative to work collaboratively
with the other members of the core faculty team as well as teaching
and supervising faculty.MINIMUM HIRING SPECIFICATIONS
1. Doctorate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or related field
(e.g. clinical psychology, human development, developmental
psychology, family science, etc.);
2. Experience teaching at the graduate level;
3. Licensed to practice (or be license eligible) as a therapist in
the state of Illinois.
4. Current Approved Supervisor designation with the American
Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). Organization
