Description:This position is located in Evanston, Illinois.
This Junior Swim Coach contributes to the creation of a warm and
welcoming environment for a diverse community of swimmers and
assists in the development of the swim team and the learn-to-swim
program that feeds into the team of the YWCA Evanston/North Shore
Flying Fish Aquatics Program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESSwim Instruction (50%)
- Teaches swim lessons for all levels and ages as needed.
- Monitors and helps with the evaluation and placement of
swimmers.Coaching (35%)
- Helps to plan and direct daily practices for swim team
groups.
- Attends swim meets regularly.
- Communicates with staff and swimmers at daily practices.
- Helps with analyzing and evaluating swimmers throughout each
season.
- Assists Head Coaches and Senior Coaches as needed.Program
Support (10%)
- Reviews meet entries and results.
- Tracks swimmers' attendance and development.
- As needed, communicates with and responds to program
participant inquiries via email, answering voicemails, and
walk-ins.
- Helps with fundraising events and other duties as
assigned.ADDITIONAL DUTIES (5%)
- Attends staff trainings and participates in agency
committees.
- Pursues professional development
- Understands and adheres to all YWCA Evanston/North Shore
procedures and policies as well as YWCA Employee Handbook.
- Understands and follows all appropriate Illinois and National
safety procedures and policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.An individual

position.Requirements:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Some high
school education.Experience and/or Training: At least one year of
experience teaching advanced-level youth
swimmers.Licenses/Certificates:
- Current USA Swimming Coach membership.
- Valid driver's license and current auto
insurance.Technology/Equipment:
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Basic proficiency in using all available swim equipment.
- Access to a personal automobile to drive to and coach at
regional swim meets.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation: High school
diploma or GEDExperience and/or Training:
- At least 2 years' experience coaching competitive youth
swimmers.
- At least 2 years' experience participating on a high school
level or above swim team.
- At least 2 years' experience providing program support duties
such as attendance tracking, email and voicemail communication, and
administrative support.
- At least 2 years' experience in lifeguarding.Language: Beginner
proficiency in Spanish
Licenses/Certificates: Red Cross Lifeguard
certificationTechnology/Equipment:
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Advanced proficiency in using all available swim
equipment.
- Basic proficiency in Hy-Tek Team Manager or Meet
Manager.PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDSIntermittent (less than 15%),
Occasional (15-45%), Frequent (50-75%), and Continuous (over 75%).
- Frequent nights and/or weekends required for programming.
- Intermittent local and statewide travel required.
- Tolerance of prolonged and continuous stationary periods at a
desk/computer or standing poolside.
- Must be able to navigate the facility, moving about the
natatorium in limited space
- Frequently required to stand, walk, climb stairs or ladders,
reach with hands and arms, and reach above shoulders.
- Occasionally required to push, pull, lift and/or move up to 50
pounds, 150 pounds in the water.
- Must be able to operate controls for computers and other
equipment.
- Occasionally may need to spend time submerged in warm or cool
pool water.The mental and physical requirements described here
represent those that must be met by an individual to successfully
perform the essential functions of this position.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Local or regional travel is required on weekends for swim
meets.
- Employee may be required to share office space.
- Employee may be required to work from home.
- Employee required during swim instruction to work in bathing
suit and spend time submerged and moving around in warm or cool
water.
- Employee will occasionally have meetings or work in other
buildings.
- Employee is required to work in a Natatorium environment with
frequent periods of high humidity, warm temperatures, loud sounds,
and the smell of chlorine.The work environment characteristics

performing the essential functions of this position.
