Description:This position is located in Evanston, Illinois.
This Senior Swim Instructor contributes to the creation of a warm and welcoming environment for a diverse community of swimmers and is responsible for teaching swim lessons and assisting with the operations of the YWCA Evanston/North Shore Learn-to-Swim program and lifeguards and assists with early swim team levels of the Flying Fish.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESSwim Instruction (65%)

• Teaches Swim Lessons for all ages and levels.
• Helps instruct community groups coming in for swim lessons.
• Monitors and helps evaluate classes and swimmers when not teaching.
• Lifeguards non-swim lesson timesLifeguarding (20%)
  • Responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons by monitoring swimmer safety and preventing and responding to emergencies in the pool area during swim lessons and open and lap swimming.Coaching (10%)
    • Assisting with entry-level swim team practiceADDITIONAL DUTIES (%5)
      • Attends staff training and participates in agency committees.
      • Pursues professional development.
      • Understands and adheres to all of YWCA Evanston/North Shore procedures and policies as well as YWCA Employee Handbook.
      • Back up/assist other instructors and lifeguards when necessary.
      • Understands and follows all appropriate Illinois and National safety procedures and policies.
      • Performs other duties as assigned by management, which may include maintenance/cleaning.An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.         Experience and/or Training: At least 2 years of experience developing swimming skills for all levels.
        Licenses/Certificates: Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR certified
        Technology/Equipment: Intermediate proficiency with swim equipment
        PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation: High School Diploma or equivalent
        Experience and/or Training:
        • At least 4 years of experience developing swim skills for all levels.
        • At least one year of experience in lifeguarding
        • At least one year of experience assisting with coaching entry-level competitive swimming.Language: Bilingual Spanish
          Technology/Equipment: Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
          PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDSIntermittent (less than 15%), Occasional (15-45%), Frequent (50-75%), and Continuous (over 75%).
          • Tolerance of prolonged and continuous time in water, being hot or cold.
          • Occasionally required to stand, walk, climb stairs, reach with hands and arms, and reach above shoulders.
          • Occasionally required to push, pull, lift, and/or move up to 10 pounds.
          • Must be able to move about the facility.
