Description:This position is located in Evanston, Illinois.This Senior Swim Instructor contributes to the creation of a warm and welcoming environment for a diverse community of swimmers and is responsible for teaching swim lessons and assisting with the operations of the YWCA Evanston/North Shore Learn-to-Swim program and lifeguards and assists with early swim team levels of the Flying Fish.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESSwim Instruction (65%) Teaches Swim Lessons for all ages and levels. Helps instruct community groups coming in for swim lessons. Monitors and helps evaluate classes and swimmers when not teaching. Lifeguards non-swim lesson timesLifeguarding (20%) Responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons by monitoring swimmer safety and preventing and responding to emergencies in the pool area during swim lessons and open and lap swimming.Coaching (10%) Assisting with entry-level swim team practiceADDITIONAL DUTIES (%5) Attends staff training and participates in agency committees. Pursues professional development. Understands and adheres to all of YWCA Evanston/North Shore procedures and policies as well as YWCA Employee Handbook. Back up/assist other instructors and lifeguards when necessary. Understands and follows all appropriate Illinois and National safety procedures and policies. Performs other duties as assigned by management, which may include maintenance/cleaning.An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.The above list reflects the general details necessary to describe the principle and essential functions of the position and shall not be construed as the only duties that may be assigned for the position.Requirements:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Some high schoolExperience and/or Training: At least 2 years of experience developing swimming skills for all levels.Licenses/Certificates: Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR certifiedTechnology/Equipment: Intermediate proficiency with swim equipmentPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation: High School Diploma or equivalentExperience and/or Training: At least 4 years of experience developing swim skills for all levels. At least one year of experience in lifeguarding At least one year of experience assisting with coaching entry-level competitive swimming.Language: Bilingual SpanishTechnology/Equipment: Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office SuitePHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDSIntermittent (less than 15%), Occasional (15-45%), Frequent (50-75%), and Continuous (over 75%). Tolerance of prolonged and continuous time in water, being hot or cold. Occasionally required to stand, walk, climb stairs, reach with hands and arms, and reach above shoulders. Occasionally required to push, pull, lift, and/or move up to 10 pounds. Must be able to move about the facility.
