NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRYEngineer in hard radiation detection Postdoctoral Position OpeningAn opening currently exists for a post-doctoral researcher in the area of gamma-ray and X-ray detection and spectroscopy. The post-doctoral associate will participate in a multidisciplinary research program which includes chemists, materials scientists, physicists, and engineers, and therefore must be willing to work in a collaborative environment. The position will include both experimental measurements and the application of models for the observed behavior. The position is for two to three years, renewable each year. Design and fabrication of high performance gamma-ray semiconductor detectors based on perovskite or CdZnTe crystals and films. Full characterization of the device structure with state-of-the-art electrical, optical, and-materials analysis tools.Apart from research, responsibilities include mentoring and training junior lab members, writing scientific manuscripts/grant applications, and assisting with lab managementResearch Environment: Our laboratories provide an abundance of measurement tools and other scientific resources for innovation, and opportunities for collaboration. Northwestern University has one of the strongest capabilities and shared instrumentation facilities in the US for materials, physical characterization and analysis. Broad arrays of systems are available for daily and dedicated use by the postdoctoral trainee to develop and enhance perovskite hard radiation detectors with tremendous opportunities for collaborations at the national and international level.Requirements The successful candidate will have previous experience in hard-radiation detection (gamma, X-ray), semiconductor characterization, electronic device assembly and electrical characterization, and optical spectroscopy. Experience with detector performance measurements, use of signal preamplifiers, amplifier multichannel analyzers is desired. Development of process sequences, characterization techniques, and advanced measuring methods for high performance semiconductor perovskite detectors. Crystal growth experience welcome but not required.
