Job Description:
We seek a physicist, materials scientist, or electrical engineer
with a strong interest in overcoming challenges faced by industries
as wide-ranging as medical imaging, national security, and nuclear
energy. We are looking for someone with an acute interest in the
development of new products who wants to play a lead role in the
growth of a startup tackling the difficult early stages of
technology transfer from a world-class research university. We want
to hire a team member who has a strong academic and product
development background that includes a master's or doctoral degree
and several years of experience in hard-radiation detection (gamma
or X-ray), semiconductor characterization, electronic device
assembly/characterization, and/or optical spectroscopy. The ideal
applicant will be able and eager to start fabricating and
characterizing new detectors on day one, starting from materials
produced by the chemistry and materials science teams.Primary
Responsibilities: -
- Play a major role in the design, development, integration, and
troubleshooting of hard radiation (gamma and X-ray) detection and
imaging data acquisition electronics, hardware, and software
- Develop procedures, software, and infrastructure to
characterize, calibrate, and qualify new detectors and systems
- Collaborate with materials scientists, chemical engineers, and
physicists to define and execute on product requirements in both
the industrial and medical device markets
- Design, integrate, and manage custom laboratory test
measurement equipment
- Interface with vendors and consultants to specify requirements
for subsystems and software
- Manage and mentor junior scientists, engineers, and
technicians
- Work with business leadership to define product roadmaps and
translate customer requests into hard engineering
specificationsIdeal Background:
- Strong background in physics, electrical engineering, or
materials science -(PhD preferred; exceptions will be made for
candidates with remarkable on-the-job experience)
- Experience in the design and fabrication of high-performance
gamma-ray and X-ray semiconductor detectors, with room-temperature
semiconductors being of special interest
- Experience with the characterization of device structure with
state-of-the-art electrical, optical, and -materials analysis
tools
- Experience performing detector performance measurements, using
of signal preamplifiers, and working with amplifier multichannel
analyzers
- Participation in or management of cradle-to-grave (design
planning to product release) development of semiconductor radiation
detection systems
- Knowledge of standard test and measurement methods, as well as
specifications, for hard radiation detection products
- Ideally, experience in product design, development,
engineering, and/or testing at companies such as Kromek, Redlen,
RapiScan, DigiRad, etc.
