Impact and Data Strategy Director

Job Description:

This position is located in Evanston, Illinois. The Impact and Data Strategy Director leads an organization-wide effort to thoughtfully utilize data to improve the programmatic impact and operational functions of the organization in our collective efforts to advance the mission of eliminating racism and empowering women. The Director guides the YWCA towards becoming an innovative and equitable data-forward organization, ensures mission impact is measured and reported in a compelling and useful manner, and looks across the organization to identify efficiency and process problems that can be solved with digital solutions. The position must demonstrate technical acumen and analytical thinking while at the same time creatively use data visualization to support authentic and effective storytelling. The position requires extensive collaboration across departments and must skillfully exert influence to build buy-in to data forward and digital transformation. The position is responsible for developing and implementing department strategies that align with and advance organizational goals, directs all daily activities, advises on agency policies, and directly develops department-level protocols and procedures in alignment with agency policy. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Impact Measurement, Analysis, and Reporting (35%)

  • Leads a collaborative process to develop, update, and implement the agency's comprehensive program impact plan including but not limited to recommending metrics to measure fidelity and impact, developing data collection and analysis protocols, and working with key staff to provide data visualizations in support of the production of compelling stories for use in marketing, development, and advocacy materials.
  • Leads efforts to strengthen a data forward culture by building staff support of and competency in using data to inform decision making, drive efficiencies, and improve impact by creating and implementing consistent department-level meetings and trainings.
  • Works collaboratively with program staff to develop logic models and theory of change models to support program design and implementation for existing programs and grant proposals and assist in providing research citations and evidenced based or best practice documentation as requested.
  • Collaborates with Chief Innovation Officer to staff a program evaluation committee of the Board of Directors to review data dashboards and impact reports that inform strategic decision making, ensure the organization is effectively measuring impact, and fostering a culture of continuous quality improvement. Digital Solutions Strategy and Administration (35%)
    • Works with department leaders and other staff to identify process and efficiency bottlenecks across the organization and makes recommendations that distinguish between process adjustments and digital solutions that require enhanced usage of existing technologies or introduction of new technologies.
    • Provides recommendations on the expanded use of digital solutions that enhance data management, reporting, and data sharing between systems, ensures the data needs of all departments of the organization are accounted for in digital solution recommendations, and manages the usage of data solution vendors.
    • Strategic oversight of the Salesforce CRM database used across 3 departments with 30 users, including but not limited to leading the development, implementation, and management of the system; managing consultant relationships; increasing staff usage and confidence through ongoing training and monitoring and recommending to agency leadership priorities for system expansion.
    • Maintains familiarity with contract mandated data systems and has the technical acumen to help coordinate manual and digital uploads of data as well as facilitating data exports. Equity Institutes Client Assessment Support (15%)
      • Collaborates with the Equity Institute Director to develop and implement an innovative equity assessment process and supporting tools and systems for clients hiring the Equity Institute to deliver organizational consulting.
      • Tracks trends in the field of equitable assessment practices and implements them in collaboration with the Equity Institute Director.
      • Oversees the development of client-specific tools for data collection and data analysis.
      • Advises Equity Institute Director on how to support clients in developing and implementing data collection processes that support equitable workplace cultures. Strategic Initiatives and Planning (7%)
        • Works with organizational leaders to support strategic plans and initiatives by developing useful plan formats that are measured, tracked, and reported out on as requested.
        • Collaborates with agency leadership to develop and implement agency wide reporting protocols that ensure all stakeholders are adequately informed of organizational progress.
        • Collaborates with agency leadership to develop and implement internal performance metrics and dashboards to track critical information. Supervision (5%)
          • Develops, motivates, and maintains a highly functioning team of staff, interns, or work-study students that demonstrates positive morale and adheres to high standards of service delivery.
          • Hires a diverse staff in accordance with agency policies and procedures and submits timely, accurate, and completed hiring paperwork.
          • Ensures new hires are on-boarded in accordance with agency policies and procedures including, but not limited to, developing, reviewing, and submitting new-hire work plans for those working 20 hours or more per week, and training on agency operations, policies, procedures, and job responsibilities.
          • Oversees the workflow and productivity of staff including, but not limited to, maintaining accurate work schedules, reviewing and approving timesheets and activity reports in a timely manner, setting and regularly reviewing professional goals, expectations, and accomplishments.
          • Develops staff capacity and morale by providing regular supervision and effective coaching including but not limited to meeting individually with staff working 20 hours or more a week at least twice a month and providing consistent and timely feedback to those working less than 20 hours a week as determined by performance needs, recognizing and recording staff accomplishments and disciplinary issues.
          • Ensures all staff who are regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours a week receive a timely annual appraisal, and organizing and leading all-department meetings at least four times per year.
          • Maintains current knowledge of best practices in field and oversees ongoing professional development and required certification of all staff ensuring a commitment to high-quality, innovative service delivery. Schedules trainings, maintains attendance and completion documentation.
          • Stays current with agency technology and its proper usage including, but not limited to, taking the initiative to seek out personal training opportunities, training direct reports on proper usage, and ensuring staff maximize their efficiency with the use of available technology.
          • Acts as primary liaison between leadership and direct reports and ensures timely, thorough, and effective organizational communication so staff feel informed and aware of organizational policies, practices, and procedures, and growth. Effectively advocates for staff by regularly soliciting staff input and representing staff needs and interest to agency leadership.
          • Ensures all staff understand and adhere to all policies in the Employee Handbook. ADDITIONAL DUTIES (3%)
            • Provides and attends staff trainings and participates in agency committees.

              MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: College-level coursework in statistics with emphasis on analytics, research, social science/policy or non-profit administration. Experience and/or Training:
              • Minimum of 4 years experience in program evaluation in a human service environment that includes process and impact measurement, data analysis and storytelling, and qualitative evaluation experience.
              • Experience in data analysis and reporting to a diverse audience of supporters using data visualization. Licenses/Certificates:
                • Successful completion of the Illinois 40-Hour Domestic Violence Training Certificate program within the first six months of employment.

                    • Master's Degree in Social Science, Human Science, Psychology, Statistics, or related fields with emphasis on research, social science/policy or applied psychology.
                    • Additional study in nonprofit management and administration Experience and/or Training: Experience developing and implementing evaluation strategies that advance racial equity Technology/Equipment: Intermediate proficiency administering Salesforce PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS Intermittent (less than 15%), Occasional (15-45%), Frequent (50-75%), and Continuous (over 75%).
                      • Tolerance of prolonged and continuous stationary periods at a desk/computer
