Registered Nurse (Multiple Specialties) Temporary NTE 1 Year -
Evanston, Illinois
Duties
This is a Permanent Temporary appointment not to exceed one
year.
There are vacancies for RNs in a variety of specialty areas to
include:

- Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC)
- Medical Home Port
- Surgery
- Support Services
- Community Living Center/Inpatient Geriatric Services
- Emergency Department
- Gastrointestinal/Endoscopy
- Specialty Medicine
- Medical/Surgical/Telemetry
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- Mental Health
- Fleet Medicine
- Occupational Health
- Public Health
Duties may include but are not limited to:
PACT/CBOC/Medical Home Port:
- Demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge in assessing planning,
implementing, documenting, and evaluating care for a designated
group of patients across the continuum of care.
- Assist Primary Care team with routine and timely completion of
preventative screening, identifies priorities for patients with
complex clinical needs.
Surgery:
- Provides nursing care in accordance with the established
standards of practice and follows policies and procedures.
- Initiates problem solving identification and seeks for a timely
resolution utilizing the plan-do-check-method of performance
improvement process.
Support Services:
- Demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches in
providing quality nursing education and related program management
supporting the hospital and VISN goals.
- Completes the Nursing 24 Hour Report daily; provides a verbal
and written report at the daily nursing leadership huddle
Monday-Friday at 0730.
- Optimize patient movement between and among acute care areas,
including internal and external facility coordination as
warranted.
CLC/IGS:
- The RN possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to
effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within the
collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting of the Community
Living Center.
ED:
- Demonstrates skills in the following: cardiac monitoring,
phlebotomy, basic intravenous placement/maintenance and
troubleshooting, advanced hemodynamics, identification and
management of unstable patients.
GI:
- Provide care throughout the complete peri-endoscopic continuum
of care: pre-endoscopic; intra-endoscopic; and post-endoscopic
(including sedation and recovery)
Specialty Medicine:
- Assesses the patient's clinical and psychosocial status,
diagnosis and current treatment plan.
- Coordinates the myriad of medical treatments, referrals,
education and discharge planning.
Med/Surg:
- Support systems; strengths/areas for growth; advocacy;
discharge planning; and collaboration with other healthcare
providers to optimize wellness and comfort.
- Give immediate attention and response to critical events and
assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the patient's experience with
pain
ICU:
- This includes but is not limited to continuous cardiac
monitoring, assisting in the insertion of invasive lines such as
arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters and maintenance, hemodynamic
monitoring, multiple vasoactive drips, mechanical ventilation,
EKG/rhythm strip interpretation, moderate sedation, post-surgical
recovery and stabilization.
- Responds to the Rapid Response System and other cardiopulmonary
arrests calls for adults in the medical center.
Mental Health:
- Knowledge of a wide variety of Psychiatry/Behavioral Health
theories, modalities, assessments, planning and
intervention.
- Involved in the admissions, treatment planning, and discharge
process and is key participant in the maintenance of a safe stable
and therapeutic environment.
Fleet Medicine:
- Assists Medical Assessment staff with routine and timely
completion of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention screening,
identifies priority needs for patients with complex
problems.
- Assesses subtle and potential changes in signs, symptoms,
and/or changes in patients' condition/behavior and provides
clinical modifications to nursing interventions
accordingly.
- Expertly assess the medical and psychosocial needs of patients
related to diagnosis, optimal treatment options, psychosocial
impact, and individualized discharge planning.
Occupational Health/Public Health:
- Complete the initial evaluation, treatment and follow-up of all
work-related injuries and illnesses.
- Setting standard of operating procedures for screening,
administration, coding, and quality assurance of immunizations.
