Systems Engineer Job ID 42328 Location Evanston, Illinois Department: IT Cyber Collaboration Svcs Salary/Grade: ITS/78 Job Summary: This position is part of a team that provides tactical and 24/7 operational support for the University's collaboration products including email, document management tools, conferencing and chat software across both Evanston and Chicago campuses, as well as Qatar. The individual will participate in a shared team on-call rotation to handle response and recovery activities during IT service disruptions. A candidate that possesses a background in enterprise collaboration software in highly desired. They will collaborate directly with schools and administrative units in support of security and operational initiatives around end-user computing. The individual will work closely with NUIT's Information Security Office on initiatives protecting campus resources. They will also participate in implementation design during new software deployment and/or enhancements which may include applications on multiple platforms. They will have responsibility in estimating and planning of complex projects, identify resources to ensure timely completion of requests, and handle other duties as assigned. Specific Responsibilities: Strategic Planning Participates in the evaluation new and emerging technologies Partner with user's in designing features for technology Provide recommendation(s) how to enhance system for future growth Advise/recommend project related to system/architectural direction and strateg Design & Implementation Resource on end-to-end design and implementation of NU's distribution of Collaboration Software Systems and Services Maintains internal and external documentation Suggest improvements to existing processes Administration Participate in deployment of new technologies and strategies for system deployment and integration into the production campus collaboration/communication infrastructure Assist in creation of procedures for data security, management, and compliance Perform technical analysis of software and hardware Evaluate and document new application requirements to meet the needs of the campus community Create ad hoc administrative reports Create feature/upgrade/change requests and recommended action(s) Development Participates actively on projects Supports the local subject matter experts (SME) in appropriate technologies and business domain Participate in day-to-day operational activities for maintaining the software environment of Collaboration Services Infrastructure including patching, backups, configuration, updating and documentation Provide recommendations on how to enhance system to meet full business requirements Determine project feasibility and how to integrate with current system Performance Provides 2nd and 3rd tier support through a periodic on-call rotation. Consults with Service Operations and users to diagnose and resolve problems in a timely fashion while stressing user service. Analyzes and isolates root cause Provides solutions to user questions and other queries such as connectivity problems, performance issues, functionality, outages etc. Utilizes available tools to monitor performance and respond appropriately. Performance Provide 2nd and as appropriate 3rd tier support through a periodic on-call rotation Consult with Service Operations and users to diagnose and resolve problems in a timely fashion Analyze and isolate root cause Provide solution(s) to user questions and other queries such as connectivity problems, performance issues, functionality, outages etc. Utilize available tools to monitor performance and respond appropriately Monitors collaboration services and in partnership with senior staff, develops reports of operational, service and security metrics Miscellaneous Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor's degree in a major such as Computer Science, Information Technology, or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience 2 years relevant experience required Enterprise Applications: Google Apps for Education; Splunk; Box Collaborative Storage; GoogleAppEngine; Microsoft Exchange: Microsoft OneDrive; Microsoft Office (Outlook) ; Microsoft SharePoint; Microsoft Teams; SQL/MySQL; Azure; Microsoft M365; SMTP Gateway; Proofpoint and Cisco Ironport SPAM Solutions Programming Languages and Frameworks: Microsoft PowerShell; Shell Scripting Analytical: Critical thinking, business intelligence application design, decision making, enterprise architecture, problem solving, use-case analysis Project: planning and strong time management, budgeting, collaboration and teamwork, cost/benefit analysis, evaluate resource needs, create/maintain project documentation including but not limited to proposals and project charters Preferred Qualifications: Ability to use judgment in interpreting and adapting policies, precedents, and work directions for appropriateness to specific tasks or problems. Ability to maintain composure and work effectively in a high pressure setting Energy and enthusiasm for this type of work, along with a clear desire to continue to develop and grow in knowledge and experience. Knowledge and experience with quality of service across enterprise networks, Voice over IP, and high availability networking environments.
