JOB TITLE: Painter

DEPARTMENT: Decorating

MAIN FUNCTION: To perform duties assigned by Decorating Supervisor.

REPORTS TO: Decorating Supervisor

SUPERVISES: No one

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares area with correct equipment, ladders or scaffolding, spreads cloth, canvas or plastic over furniture and floor.

Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, durabond, topping or other fillers.

Smooth surfaces using sandpaper, wire brushes or steel wool and removes old paint from surfaces using paint removers, scrapers and wire brushes to prepare surfaces for painting.

Mixes base paints with proper formulas.

Applies paint, varnish, stains, enamels or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces.

Applies paint with brushes, spray gun or roller.
Creates special effects by applying paint with cloth, brush or sponge.

May be required to perform any or all of the following: wash walls, ceilings and woodwork, stencil surfaces with lettering or decorations, hang wallpaper, power wash exterior surfaces and floors. Estimate time and material costs on painting and redecorating.

Is aware of Presbyterian Homes Corporate Compliance policies including those having to do with confidentiality and security of information, and concern for the well-being of residents and patients. Demonstrates behaviors and completes work in a manner consistent with these policies.

EDUCATION: Ability to read and write.

EXPERIENCE: At least 2 years experience as painter.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to work within set standard.

CONTACTS: Residents, employees, visitors and outside contractors.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS: Carries ladders, containers of paint and planks, must push work cart with materials, lifts materials weighing up to 50 lbs., climbs and balances on ladder or scaffolds. Kneels, crouches, stoops and crawls when preparing surfaces for painting.

HAZARDS: Works with solvents, oil base paints, lacquers and epoxy material.
